Which Wild Animals Live in Our San Antonio, TX Neighborhood? Wildlife Critter Removal from Attics & Homes

Have you noticed that something is getting into the pet food you keep in your garage? Or have you had a problem keeping your garden from getting eaten by something? You aren’t alone. Wildlife pests are a big problem and can be a headache. A Five Star Termite & Pest Control would like to talk about some common wildlife that might be a nuisance and how you can avoid attracting them.

Common Wildlife Found in Your Home or Property

Wildlife comes in several forms, each of them as obnoxious as the other. Here are a few wildlife that you might see in your home or on your property in Texas:
Possums & Skunks– These pests are attracted to your home for several reasons, most of all, food. They are not picky eaters, and are especially attracted to your trash. If you don’t store your trash properly, you can count on having a problem with these pests. Not only are they attracted to your food, but they are always trying to find somewhere to create a den. They like to make their home under porches, under decks, or in sheds that aren’t closed and locked up.
Bats– For the most part, bats don’t really want anything to do with humans. They are actually incredibly helpful in the fact that they eat many insects that are bothersome to humans, including mosquitoes. Their droppings, or guano, are a problem though. They carry diseases and illnesses that pose a health threat to humans who come in contact with it, not to mention, it is a mess.
Snakes– The best way to keep snakes away, is to eliminate places that they like to live in. This includes wood piles, unkempt grass and landscaping; and even sheds. They eat rodents and other insects, so keeping the population down will help keep snakes away.
Squirrels & Rodents– These pests are constantly trying to find a way into your home. They like to build nests there and have a strong food source in your home as well. They chew on wires that create fire hazards, and leave behind messy nests and feces that pose a health risk.

Wildlife Prevention

Many of these pests look cute but just because they are fun to watch out in nature, doesn’t mean you would want any of them in your home or on your property. Their adorable faces can be mischievous to say the least. To keep them away, you need to make sure you don’t have any access points into your home. Some wildlife pests are attracted to the foods you eat and will stop at nothing to get it. Repair any cracks or holes on the exterior of your home and replace any screens that may be ripped or torn. If you have vents that lead into your attic, you should put heavy screening behind them in order to keep many of these pests from building their nests in your home.
