What Months are the Worst for Mosquitoes in China Grove, TX & How Long Does Mosquito Season Last?

If you are like most people, you have been dealing with dreadful mosquitoes all summer long. As we start to look into the fall season, you may be asking “when will mosquitoes go away?” We all hate dealing with the itchy bites that mosquitoes leave behind at every BBQ we have as the sun is starting to go down. Luckily, A Five Star Termite & Pest Control is here to talk about mosquito season and when you can start to feel the reprieve and enjoy the outdoors without having to worry about mosquitoes.

Why are Mosquitoes a Threat to Humans?

There is no doubt that a mosquito bite is irritating. That itchy red bump can be the source of misery for days after it happens. There is more than the itch that is a threat posed by mosquitoes though. They can carry many diseases that are passed on to those they bite including West Nile Virus, Zika and Malaria. All of these diseases have an impact on your overall health and some can even cause death.

What Time of Year Do Mosquitoes Come Around?

There are many different mosquito species; some of them hibernate during the winter and reemerge when the weather starts to warm up. Some species lay eggs in the fall and those eggs hatch in the spring when the weather starts to warm up. Once the temperature reaches 50 degrees, you can plan to start seeing these mosquitoes come out from wherever they have been hiding. Mosquitoes are most active during the warmest months of the years, so as you start to see the temperatures backing off, so will the mosquitoes.

How Long Does the Mosquito Season Last?

This will all depend on the temperature. When you start to get the first frost, you can expect them to start seeking refuge for the winter. The mosquitoes that lay eggs in the fall will start to die off as the weather gets cold and the ones that hibernate will be looking for hollow logs and other places to hide during the coldest months of the year. If you experience any warm spells after the first frost, you can expect to see the hibernating mosquitoes come back out for the few warmer days that you experience. Don’t worry, as soon as the temperature goes back down, so will they.

How Can I Protect Myself from Mosquitoes?

Even if you don’t see as many mosquitoes this late in the year, you need to be doing what you need to in order to protect yourself from the diseases that they carry. Wearing the right clothing can do wonder for keeping mosquitoes from biting you. If it is too warm for long sleeved clothing, use insect repellent to keep them from landing on your skin.
