This virus started to get national attention after a serious outbreak in May of 2015. The outbreak started in Brazil but has since made its way into the United States. There are some areas in the US that even called for a state of emergency because of the amount of cases that were being recorded. The virus does not have any major symptoms that would call for alarm because they are so similar to a common cold or flu. The biggest effect that the virus has is on mothers to be. The virus can lead to birth defects, most commonly hydrocephaly which is a small head. A mosquito that is infected with the virus can infect a person with a single bite.

West Nile Virus

This virus has gotten its name from the area that it was first found. The mosquitoes in the area surrounding the West Nile are commonly infected with bacteria and carry various viruses. The West Nile Virus is not as common in the US but has been found in some states. The virus affects humans but can also infect pets and animals too. Some people don’t show any symptoms at all but when they do it is usually the same symptoms you would have if you had the flu.
