Why Do Flies Circle Aimlessly?
When flies come inside your home seeking cool air and food, they become stressed out and disoriented. Many times you will see flies bouncing into walls or windows trying to escape. Eventually many flies will eventually die on their own from the repeated banging of their head into a window or a wall. The air conditioning can cause them to die as well. If a fly finds their way into your house they will live for no longer than two weeks.
How Quickly Do Flies Reproduce?
You need to exercise caution if you find houseflies in your home that you can’t get rid of though due to their quick reproduction cycle. The reproductive cycle of a house fly takes place quickly and typically results in over a hundred flies hatching. A female house fly can lay up to 150 eggs in one batch. Female house flies can then produce five or six batches of eggs in just a few days. Over the next three to five days the eggs hatch into larvae called maggots. Once turning into maggots it takes three to six days for them to pupate. Fly pupae is where hard, brown shells protect the developing flies while they continue to develop. After emerging as fully grown house flies, these new female house flies are capable of reproducing on their own within two to three days. When flies leg eggs in your house you could find yourself with a huge fly population before you know it!
Do Flies Throw Up on You when They Land on You?
Many people believe the myth that flies vomit on you when they land on you. Thankfully this is just a myth! They do vomit on their food though. Since flies don’t have teeth they vomit on their food so that it gets wet. Once the food is wet they will be able to dissolve the food and eat it. Even though flies don’t vomit on humans, you should definitely wash yourself if a fly lands on you. Since flies typically land on something decaying, you never know where they have been. Protect yourself by washing off whatever the fly may have inadvertently left on your skin by washing the area right away.
What Attracts Flies?
Flies thrive in anything wet and warm. They are attracted to garbage, decaying items, and pet feces. Garbage and pet feces provide flies with an appealing place to build their nest and lay their eggs. If your home is clean and your garbage is thoroughly closed, your risk of flies invading your home will dramatically decrease. It is especially important to empty your trash cans in your home before leaving on vacation. Coming home to numerous batches of newly hatched flies definitely would not be the welcome home you had in mind!
