West Nile Virus is a tricky one to diagnose. Some people that are infected with this virus will experience no symptoms at all. 1 in 5 people will experience a fever and aches and pains though. There are also some people that will experience serious effects that come from the disease. It can cause brain swelling and meningitis in severe cases.
Whenever you experience swelling on your brain or spinal cord, it is known as encephalitis. Mosquitoes carry several diseases that can cause this. West Nile is one of them. This can cause serious problems including seizures, muscle weakness and even brain damage when it isn’t treated.

This is a disease that is usually contracted outside of the U.S.
This is a disease that wasn’t a problem in the U.S. until recently. It is painful as you have severe joint aches that will plague you for several weeks before they go away. Drinking a good amount of fluid and allowing your body the rest it needs will be the best way to fight the disease. Over the counter pain relievers will be helpful too.

To avoid mosquito bites you should follow these tips:
– Wear light colored clothing that covers most of your body.
– Apply bug spray containing DEET to your bare skin.
– Get rid of standing water on your property.
– Keep screens in your windows in good condition.
