When you are out looking for a new home there are a lot of things that you probably have on your checklist. You might be looking for the right size bedrooms, the perfect kitchen counters and a yard you can use to invite guests over. Although looking for a new house is exciting there are some aspects that you want to check into as well. You don’t want to get into a house and then find out that there is a huge pest infestation. This can put a real damper on trying to move in and getting your home in order. When you move your own belongings in the house and there are already pests you might end up with a bigger problem. When you are looking for a new house to move into there are some things that you can look for to determine if the house has a pest problem. A Five Star Termite & Pest Control outlines what to check for when looking for a house to move into.
Inspect for Active Pests
If you think about it this is the most obvious way to check for a pest problem. Often times the house that you are going to be looking at has been left empty and quite. That is the perfect environment for the pests that usually want to hide when there is traffic in the house. When you go in the house after it has been quiet the pests may be active and moving around. When you walk through you want to check the edges of the house to see if there are any live pests moving around. The other great thing is that the house is likely to be empty which makes it easier to find the spaces that pests like to run and hide.
Dead Insects & Pests in House
You might think that if you don’t see live pests walking around the house that you are safe. That is not the truth. Many times the person that is selling the house will notice the problem and quickly have a single treatment done. This might stop some of the pests but it won’t rid the house of an infestation. You can look for pests that are dead in the house around the edges as well as outside the house. When they run across the treatments the pest will start to die and end up around the house. Be cautious of the pests that you see that are dead around the house.
One of the other problems that you may come across when you look at a house is the smell that exists. There are some pests that when they start to nest in the house, walls, attic or basement will leave an odor behind. This is usually from rodents that leave droppings as well as urine around the house. A musty odor can be a sign that the house is infested with pests.
