Can a Cockroach Live Without its Head?
If you were to cut off the head of a cockroach, it is true, the insect will not die immediately like other pests. The blood inside a cockroach will clot where the head has been severed and it can still breath through little holes located in each body segment; so it can still live. However, it will not live for long. It still has to find a way to eat and drink which is nearly impossible without a head. The cockroach will like live 1-2 weeks and then die from lack of water.
Does Stepping on a Cockroach Release Eggs?
Have you ever seen a video that included a person stepping on an insect and a bunch of babies fleeing the scene? Some cockroaches carry their eggs in a capsule on their back until the eggs are ready to hatch. While you may be afraid that you will be unleashing a ton of babies when you step on a cockroach carrying an egg capsule, studies have shown that you will actually kill the adult cockroach as well as the eggs and babies when you step on it.
Does Leaving Lights on Deter Cockroaches?
This one is easy to believe. Rarely will you see cockroaches in the light of day. That is not because they are scared of the light though. These pests are nocturnal and will seek cover during daylight hours. When an infestation is so large that they are having a difficult time finding somewhere to duck and cover, you will see them running around your home when the sun is out. That’s how you know you have a sizable infestation on your hands.
Can I Have Cockroaches in My Clean House or Apartment?
While cockroaches are more likely to find an abundance of food sources in a house that is dirty, they don’t care if your home is dirty or clean. If there is any chance that they will be able to find a meal or some water to drink, they will work their way into your house in search of it.
