We know you don’t want to try and identify a pest when it goes scurrying across your floor, but it will help when you are looking into pest control. The type of treatment that a professional pest control technician will use will vary depending on the type of pests you have. If you are able to identify the pest itself or at least what it looks like, the technician can work more effectively. There are several words that are used when describing pests such as an insect, arachnid and rodent. They are all different and have their own unique characteristics that can be used to identify them. This identification can be done by the technician that is sent out but it is always better to have as much information as possible.
A Five Star Termite & Pest Control outlines the differences between an insect, arachnid and a rodent and what you need know to identify them.
Rodent Species
This is a type of pest that probably doesn’t need much explanation. A rodent is a pest that has no molars and has long front incisors that continue to constantly grow. They tend to chew on things around them including the wires and wood beams that are in your home. They include rats, mice, squirrels and porcupines. Rodents are much larger than most pests and are easily told apart from most other pests.
Are Bugs & Insects the Same?
This is a funny set of words and can become very confusing. The fact is that some insects are considered a bug but not all insects are bugs. We know, that is not super helpful but there are some ways to tell apart which one is a strict insect and which ones are a bug. The main difference is that the bug has a tube like beak that is used to pierce a flower or fruit and even a human to feed on nectar or blood. An insect mainly has a segmented body that has three parts and three sets of legs for a total of six legs. There are some insects that are not a bug at all even though the name has bug in it such as a ladybug.
What are other Arachnids Besides Spiders?
Arachnids is a species of pest that are mainly known as a spider. There have been movies to spread the fear of spiders and many people have a very real fear of them. Spiders are known as an arachnid but so it a scorpion. They are not as likely to find in your home, but can come in if they find an opening.
